Floating in a super saturated solution of Epsom salt and water frees you from the sensation of gravity, temperature, touch, sight and sound will conserve and redirect vast amounts of physical and mental energy. This will decompress the spine and induce a state of ultra-deep relaxation that will lower cortisol and melt away the tension stored in muscles. Floating is extremely effective at calming the mind, which greatly accelerates our body’s ability to heal itself from the rigors of modern life, such as stress, lack of sleep, intense workouts, jet lag, and more. Float therapy works wonders for relaxation and recovery, but can also provide chronic pain relief, boost creativity, and leave you with a euphoric afterglow that can last for days.

  Physical benefits

Relaxation Response

Sensory deprivation suppresses the sympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for our ‘fight or flight’ response and activates the parasympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for relaxation, healing, and replenishment. Some physical symptoms of the relaxation response are decreased muscle tension, decreased blood pressure, decreased stress hormones, and increased endorphins.

Enhanced Healing, Rejuvenation, and Recovery

Floating increases circulation to extremities, promotes greater muscular relaxation, prevent adrenal fatigue, and reduce muscle inflammation.

Pain Management

The anti-gravity environment of the float tank has been well documented to provide relief to many issues caused by ridged posture such as lower-back pain, neck pain, inflammation, tendinitis, shallow breathing, high blood pressure, and even fibromyalgia.

Increased Stress Resistance

Regular floating can alter the set-points in the endocrine homeostatic mechanism which can cause adjustments such as a lower adrenal activation threshold. This means that we become more resistant to the stimuli of chronic stressors bombarding us in modern urban settings.

Increased Immune Function

Immune function is enhanced by suppressing stress hormones, which not only weaken the immune system, but also suppress the digestion and reproductive systems, affect regeneration processes, and decrease insulin sensitivity.

Magnesium Absorption

The extremely high concentration of Epsom salts are absorbed through skin and will supplement your diet with a mineral that has been shown to be deficient in the average populations diet. Mg can prevent cardiovascular disease, regulate high blood pressure, prevent osteoporosis, relieve menopause symptoms, provide PMS relief, create healthier bones and teeth, and is involved with detoxification.

Heightened Senses

Research indicates increased visual acuity, improved tactile perception, improved auditory sensitivity, and increased taste sensitivities after floating.

  Mental benefits

Meditation and Mindfulness

Meditation has a plethora of researched benefits and floating is a unique and phenomenal tool to cultivate mental stillness. It often generates a sensation of being intensely awake yet extremely relaxed; presence. It can induce theta-state brainwaves and allows for one to remain conscious in this frequency instead of falling asleep.

Improve Sleeping Patterns

Many people report drastically improved sleeping abilities. 60 minutes in the float tank can feel like 3-4 hours of sleep because it is extremely refreshing and will reset your circadian rhythms. Also, magnesium plays a key role in the bodily function that regulates sleep, making insomnia one of the symptoms of magnesium deficiency.

Floating and the relaxation response flood the body with endorphins. These neurotransmitters are responsible for relieving us from pain, enhancing our mood (decreasing feelings of depression to potentially generating feelings of euphoria), they can suppress our appetite, and decrease anxiety, leaving us in a calm and clear state of being.

Behavior Modification

Floating is a great way to bring greater awareness to various patterns of behavior. Floating has shown to have beneficial effects such as decreased anxiety and depression; increased calmness or sense of well-being; it has shown fantastic results towards anti-smoking assistance as well as positive effects on weight-loss programs.

Brain Syncronization

After settling into the floating experience research has shown greater hemisphere synchronization (promoting greater communication between the right (creative-side) and left (analytical-side) lobes; the majority of people are left-dominated. Also, people experience increased vertical communication between the primitive reptilian brain, the limbic middle or mammalian brain and the conscious neocortex. These synchronizing reactions can cause elevated states of creativity, greater non-linear connections, and deeper realizations.

The combination of being extremely relaxed while intensely awake allows techniques of visualization to become very powerful. From athletes preparing for competition to public speakers rehearsing a presentation, floating can induce the calm needed to perform at ones best. Research on mental rehearsal  has shown it to be just as practical as physical rehearsal.

With the brain being held in a theta wave-length, the mind becomes hyper-suggestible. With less distractions and greater resources at its disposal, the mind is able to absorb new material very deeply with research showing improved performance in memory and recall activities. It is great to use in conjunction with exam preparation.

  Top 5 benefits

Effortlessly slip into meditative states, which has a plethora of proven benefits. You’ll feel intensely awake, yet extremely relaxed and clear-headed.

Floating will release tension stored in muscles and decompress the spine, which is both soothing and effectively relieves chronic pain.

Greatly accelerate the body’s ability to heal itself from the effects of stress, intense workouts, late-nights, and overstimulation.

  Who benefits?

Floatation increases the release of endorphins and dopamine, often leaving us in a state of euphoria.

Floatation allows you to slip into meditative states, which has many proven benefits. You feel intensely awake, yet extremely relaxed and clear-headed.

Floatation makes it easier to quit addictive behavioral patterns, having shown fantastic results towards quitting smoking and changing diets.

Without any distraction, information can be absorbed at incredible rates.

Office Workers

Studies show that floatation sharply reduces biochemicals related to stress, anxiety, tension and other related conditions.

The brain slows to a theta state and your mind begins to ‘daydream’, training you to explore new ideas freely.

Floatation refreshes your daily routine; your thoughts, actions, and environment. Experience greater awareness to things and details that you usually overlook.

The combination of anti-gravity and epsom salt-rich environment speeds up recovery, compressing what normally takes a long period of time into hours.

Athletes who use visualisation techniques during floatation have experienced rapid improvement. In the tank, you can train your central nervous system to produce peak performances.

Epsom salt helps cure sore muscles and we have 1,000 pounds of it in every pod.

Night Owls

If you work a late-night shift like a bartender, it’s likely that you’re wired after your shift and floating is a healthy and natural way to relax your nerves, allowing you to get a great night of deep sleep.

If you party late at night and exhaust your dopamine and endorphin levels, floating is the perfect way to get back to baseline. Without external stimulus, the body enters a state of self-healing and the brain replenishes these very important neurotransmitters.

Folks w/ chronic pain

Floating weightless without pressure points will decompress and realign the spine, often producing breakthroughs with chronic back pain, neck pain, knee pain, arthritis, and even fibromyalgia.

Those w/ PTSD

Nearly 20% of veterans return from abroad with PTSD and floating has brought profound relief to many of them.

  • Cryotherapy

    • Coming soon to new Oakland location
    • Not available at SF location

For 3-minutes, the cryo chamber will cool the surface of your skin by 30-50°F using gasified nitrogen. This activates the body’s powerfully healing “cold-shock response”. During the session, blood will rush to the core and once the sessions is over, it returns to the extremities carrying newly released neurotransmitters and hormones that can dramatically lower inflammation, increase collagen levels, boost mood, accelerate recovery, and increase focus among many other benefits. To battle the cold, the body also revs up the metabolism to create heat, which burns fat and provides a boost of energy. It has been widely shown that cryotherapy produces the best results when 5 – 10 treatments are done in close succession (separated by 1-2 days). After, weekly treatments are ideal to maintain and improve on your results.

  Top benefits

  • Lower Inflammation

Inflammation has been identified as the key driver of the aging process, causes pain, and is associated with most age related diseases. Cryo will increase your norepinephrine levels, which is a powerful anti-inflammatory.

  • Increase Metabolism (Burn Fat & Increase Energy)

In order to recover its normal temperature, the body will ramp up the metabolism to produce heat and in the process will burn between 400 and 800 calories per session and will give you a noticeable boost in energy

  • Improve Heart Rate Variability (HRV)

HRV is the change in oscillation between heart-beats. A higher HRV will improve the ability for your heart to slow after a workout and a high HRV indicates dominance of the parasympathetic nervous system, which promotes relaxation, recovery, sleep, and digestion.

  • Increased Resistance to Cold

After multiple sessions, the body starts to make more mitocondria in your fat cells, which helps with resistance to the cold.

  • Increase Blood Circulation

When you’re exposed to cold temperatures, the body sends the blood flow to vital organs and the brain. As soon as you warm, the blood rushes back to the extremities, which increases your circulation and brings both oxygen and vital nutrients to all parts of the body.

  • Relieve Pain from Injuries or Joint Disorders

Top athletes have been taking ice baths for decades to relieve pain. While ice baths helped reduce inflammation and swelling, it was a long process that was extremely uncomfortable. Thankfully, cryo only takes a few minutes to achieve the same results.

  • Increases Collagen Levels

Cryo has been shown to enhance collagen levels, so if you’re having problems with joints and tendons or just want to stave off wrinkles and skin aging, it’s a perfect and natural alternative to collagen injections.

  • Increase focus & Improve Mood

Part of the cold-shock response is an increase (up to 5x w/ continual sessions) of norepinephrine, which has been shown to increase focus, attention and mood.

How many treatments should I do?

We recommend 5-10 treatments in close succession (separated by 1-2 days) to maximize your results. After that, you can slow to once every week or two weeks to maintain and improve your results.

Is it safe?

Yes. A Reboot team member will raise the platform so that your head is above the heavier nitrogen vapors and you’ll be breathing normal room-air. In addition, there are ozygen sensors and a team member will be there throughout the session to make sure everything goes smoothly.

How cold will I get?

We’ll play some music, so you can dance around and have fun with it. Three minutes go by fast, so typically once you start getting cold the session is over. If you find yourself too cold, you can get out at any time.

Can I catch a cold because of this?

No. The immediate cold impact of the cryo session will raise the internal body temperature for a short period of time. The stimulation of the immune system can actually help decrease the severity and frequency of future colds.

How will I feel after the session?

During each session the body releases endorphins, which are hormones that make you feel good and energetic. The mood-enhancing effects from each session can last for days.

What do I wear during the session?

We’ll provide you with a robe and you can undress in the chamber. Under the robe, you’ll be wearing dry socks with slippers, gloves and underwear (all jewelry must be removed and women must avoid bras with metal wire). One of our team members will ensure you are wearing proper attire.

Do I have to take a shower before or after?

No, you don’t. This procedure is absolutely dry and does not make your skin wet.

Who should not use cryotherapy?

The following conditions are contraindications to whole body cryotherapy: Pregnancy, severe Hypertension (BP> 160/100), acute or recent myocardial infarction, unstable angina pectoris, arrhythmia, symptomatic cardiovascular disease, cardiac pacemaker, peripheral arterial occlusive disease, venous thrombosis, acute or recent cerebrovascular accident, uncontrolled seizures, Raynaud’s Syndrome, fever, tumor disease, symptomatic lung disorders, bleeding disorders, severe anemia, infection, claustrophobia, cold allergy, age less than 18 years (parental consent to treatment needed), acute kidney and urinary tract diseases.
